As I write this, Linsanity the Movie has one more day left in its Kickstarter campaign. The documentary tells a great story of an unlikely sports hero. It was shown at Sundance and has had great reviews. I cannot WAIT.
But to me, there's another reason why I think this documentary is important... and it may impact the way people write about Asian Americans in the future.
If you don't remember #Linsanity and the media controversies that surrounded it, click here. I don't want to rehash it.
The Asian American Journalists Association put some writers on blast for using words like "deceptively quick" to describe Jeremy Lin. There we so many stereotypes used... it was almost unbelievable. Why couldn't an Asian American man be quick? As Angry Asian Man blogger Phil Yu has said, everything is racist but not everything is racist.
Anyway, check it out! It looks like the doc will have a wide appeal, not just to Asian Americans or basketball lovers. Good storytelling in the works here.
