You may have heard that Google is making a computer that will fit on your face. It's called Google Glass, and geeks all over the world are getting excited. I am, too! You had to apply to be one of the first people in the country (or world, though technically only US users are eligible) to use them. Up to 8,000 people are getting notified with invitations. I got mine today on Twitter. What will I do with it? The news, of course! And we'll be taking smart shopping trips together.

One of my favorite events of the year is the Wing Fling at Carolina Beach. Last year, I somehow got suckered into the wing eating competition... but this year, I was just asked to judge. And thank goodness, because I was terrible at the contest. Jon had to sign his life away in a waiver... since some of the wings were 'blazin'... I'm so glad he survived! However, he and Foz (love the hair) were not able to win against the fraternity guys. We had some connection issues but tried to stream the wing eating competition - doesn't start til about 4:00. Oh, the things you'll learn in a hangout! We host a Google Plus hangout every night during the news on Fox Wilmington and WECT. For those unfamiliar with HOAs, that means we livestream over YouTube and invite people to join us at the same time. Who knew that a machine from 1912 could be used for something as cool as a modern day wedding invitation? Billy Stanley, owner of Emergent Web, showed us the ins and out of a printing press that's more than 100 years old. His family was in the printing business, and his dad even started the Brunswick Beacon newspaper. The printing press actually leaves an impression, which means you can feel the ink embossed in the paper. Do you want to join our hangouts? We start them every night at 10 p.m. EST on YouTube and on Google Plus. Another great event over the weekend - so much money was raised for the Cape Fear chapter of the American Red Cross. This year it was at the Burney Center and we even saw speed painter, Tim Decker. It was pretty cool! He said he doesn't pencil in a sketch beforehand, so this is supposed to be all from memory. Is it Obama? Someone else? We were trying to figure it out, which you can tell by my awesome commentary. We had such an awesome Korean Kitchen episode making Korean BBQ lettuce wraps! @KellyMcCullen even did an impromptu cook along! My hangout buddy Linda Linares even stopped the house to eat with us! Here's the deal. Everyone loves Korean BBQ lettuce wraps. These are made with short ribs, but you can also use a less expensive or less fatty meat... just make sure you beat it to make it tender. All you need is... beef, red leaf lettuce, rice, garlic, onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, and onions. If you want to make the dipping sauce, you just need to get soybean paste, red pepper paste , honey and a jalapeno. You can buy those at the Asian market. Any hot sauce will be a good substitute - I like it when you use what you've got in the fridge... unless you want to try new things. See the ingredient list Check out the event page on Google Plus Also, thanks to Carolina Farmin' and Susan Johnson for providing us with our ingredients! And, to Larry Fournillier, Kim Beasley, Anthony Ramos and all of our special guests! One of the most fun events of the year has come and gone... United Way's Pajama Party! We had such a blast raising money for a great cause. Proceeds go to respite care for homeless people. Thanks goes to Blush Haus of Beaute for doing our hair and makeup. Also, I loved the jammies I wore from Cool Sweats! They are SUPER CUTE!
See more pics On my way out, I got stopped at the DJ table... so I did what anyone would do. I rapped. You'll have to ask me what song, but it is a 90s karaoke classic. And thanks to Genie Leigh Photography for capturing some great moments. Hope to see you there next year. We recently had Delly from Delly's Deals on Fox Wilmington to show us some of the best deals of the week... and I can tell you, they work! Delly gave us a list of printable coupons from the web... so I printed out the coupons and went shopping at Harris Teeter. *Deals end Tuesday night (3/12) Get the printable coupons Watch the video All of this cost $11.57 with tax-- and I love the Gluten-free cracker-chips! This will be great to pack in the hubby's lunch this week.
Notes - You rarely get coupons for meat. There's a pork coupon that helps you save. The gluten-free chips are awesome to have because they're kind of expensive chips. The crab stuff will be great for California rolls. I personally don't like cake, but I am always finding myself in need of bringing cupcakes somewhere. Yogurt and candy go without saying.
More to come, but a bunch of us had a blast shooting for Wilma Magazine at Harris Teeter.
