Instead of a spa day, I treated myself to a house cleaning and a grocery delivery service. And it was glorious. Since I'm the accountant in my family, I rarely spend any money on what I believe are luxury items, like spa days... though occasionally I'll get a massage if I'm in pain... or a pedicure if...well, I got funky feet. I used to think house cleaning was a luxury item for me, too. After all, I'm capable, I'm childless and I could save the money. WRONG. But after having (awesome) house guests for a month, dealing with basement flooding, working against two very big deadlines, going to St. Louis, traveling to Los Angeles and covering breaking news... I finally talked myself into making an appointment with Madison Green Cleaners, thanks to a recommendation from my co-anchor, Eric. I loved having the free time to finally hang up a picture. In fact, I hung up 3! Don't judge the house, I still have a lot to do... The woman who came to my home was named Amelia (I think) -- she was so sweet. I gathered that she liked Pitbull, so we listened to the Pandora station and went to our own work. She did everything! Dusted my shelves, cleaned my oven, scrubbed my floors. I was totally impressed. When she was nearly finished, two more people arrived and worked like a tornado to mop my floors and vacuum. They even put my dogs' gross bones neatly by their bed... and lined up our beat-up outdoor shoes. And then to switch gears, I decided that it was worth the $5 delivery fee to get groceries delivered. I love going online to Fresh Madison Market because it's so easy! I just go online, place my order and give them a time to deliver. And, I love that they always find the deal prices for you. If you buy everything on sale, it's more than worth the service. I usually like going grocery shopping, but sometimes it's a pain. I have other things going on, you know? And if I drove to the store, I'd buy more than I need and I'd lose an hour of my life. Nope. Not this day. They rolled up when we were in the middle of the house being cleaned. TIP: If you order this service and want to leave a tip, right now your only option is to pay in cash. I apologized to my delivery dude Tim for a fistful of car change and some dollar bills. Sorry about that, Tim! Anyway, sometimes you need a spa day, but sometimes you need to stay at home. I can tell you that my in-house experience today was about a third of what a spa day can cost, but I don't want to insult anyone in the business of spa treatments! They are awesome, too.
And the dogs? They loved it. I put them in the basement and they watched episodes of The Dog Whisperer. I found them both on the bed watching Cesar Millan. They love that guy. While others were cleaning my house and doing my grocery shopping, I was able to do laundry, hang pictures, hang out with my sister and blog. So, yes. Sometimes we all need a little help. We are lucky to have great resources at reasonable prices! I'm hooked.
