If you take part in a crime that leads to the death of another, you deserve the death penalty, regardless if you were the one that actually pulled the trigger. Stupid criminals will continue to victimize innocent law abiding people because the penalties for their crimes are too weak. Send someone to prison for murder where they are treated with respect by prisoners and they get food, shelter, access to exercise equipment and healthcare and inmates that will teach them how to be better criminals. It is a vicious cycle that will never be broken unless the punishment is severe enough to deter these individuals. Death would be a just punishment for their actions and hopefully deter future criminals. Otherwise these criminals will get some joke of a sentence and just go right back to being the low-life criminals they truly are and do something horrible to another innocent victim.
