Mercy For Animals is once again accusing Butterball of animal abuse one week before Thanksgiving. If you watch the group's undercover video, you will see workers kicking and throwing turkeys. You'll also see sick or injured turkeys wailing on the ground. That's what the group wants you to see. Matt Rice, the Director of Investigations with Mercy For Animals, says Americans should be able to make an informed decision on the food they eat. Here's my story from tonight: (PS - we used Google Plus because the group is based in Los Angeles.) Butterball is headquartered in North Carolina. Investigators were hired as workers and checked out five facilities in four counties across the state: Duplin, Lenoir, Onslow, and Sampson Counties.
In 2011, the group also found abuse at a facility in Hoke County. Five people ended up being charged with cruelty. Butterball is also saying it has a zero tolerance policy of animal cruelty. The workers allegedly involved are currently suspended. Whaddya think? Could you go meatless? Would you? What about after watching the video?
