One thing that I love about the Junior League of Madison is that they provide meals for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. The RMH could always use more help! I think this is a great thing for a group of friends to do... or even a group from work. I usually can't prepare the dinners because of my schedule, but I can drop off ingredients for other League members to make the food. Here's how we do it at the League. Someone coordinates with the volunteers to see if we're bringing food or preparing it. Those of us who bring food usually bring a few ingredients and drop it off at the front desk (usually we spend less than $15 each.) Those who prepare food usually do it sometime between 4 and 6 p.m. The Ronald McDonald House typically asks for casseroles because they can be put in the freezer to feed families on nights when there aren't volunteers. Of course the best part is meeting families and hearing their stories... or just knowing that you're helping someone in a really difficult time. Our health is so fragile, and we are all vulnerable to changes. It is comforting to know that families - and children - don't have to endure it alone.
There are lots of volunteer opportunities. If you're interested, contact the Ronald McDonald House at 608-232-4671. If you're interested in the Junior League, send them an email. Twitter - @rmhcmadison @JLMadison FB - https://www.facebook.com/rmhcmadison https://www.facebook.com/JuniorLeagueMadison
