Michael's Seafood Restaurant has the best seafood chowder in the world. And that's the truth! Recently, the Carolina Beach eatery won the 30th annual Knorr Great Chowder Cook-off in Rhode Island! IT IS AN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION! The owner, Michael McGowan entered the seafood category for the third year in a row... and won... for the third year in a row. The chowder is so darn good that the competition folks told Michael to stop entering the seafood category. But, they did it with a smile and put Michael's Restaurant into the competition's Hall of Fame. By the way, an estimated 30,000 people voted for Michael's chowder to make it a winner. And the little factoid I like the best? Mr. McGowan doesn't have a sense of smell. He relies on his hands for texture and his trusted recipe keepers to make sure the chowder is up to par. By the way, I had such a wonderful time meeting people and taking pictures! It was such a great crowd.

It's now been a little more than a full week of working out with Adam Freeman. And let me tell you, he is such a great motivator. A friend of mine said it best--Adam helps you lose weight without losing your dignity. He's the kind of guy who will push you hard but will always be encouraging.
Anyway, Adam says we've had great progress, and we're still going strong! But, what I need to do now is really focus on what's going on outside the gym... like what I'm eating! Knowing your BMR is a huge step in losing weight. That's the amount of calories your body burns everyday without doing anything... How many calories can you burn just by laying in bed all day? [FIND OUT YOUR BMR HERE] From there: 1. Keep track of your workouts 2. Subtract the difference in calories burned 3. And by the end of the week you may drop a pound or two! By the way, 3500 calories = 1 lb. Hope that wasn't too much math for you today!! My BMR is 1382 calories... what's yours? Ray Baca just got back from Joplin. He spent five days out there helping a friend who lost her home. He also used his craft to help uplift people... and he says he wants to go back one day. Ray seems to have such a good heart. He has a successful wedding photography business in downtown Wilmington at The River Room. It's always touching to see people give back. And, I'm also touched because he helped people from my home state. Here are just a few of his pictures! |
