Organizers say the 4th annual Cape Fear Shrimpfest was the best one yet! The Logging Chef Dave Mueller and the gang were there from The Discovery Channel's Swamp Loggers...so was New Hanover County Chairman Jonathan Barfield and two of his lovely daughters! I was particularly honored to help cut the ribbon for the amazing event! The Cape Fear Presbyterian Church put on the event. All proceeds go to the Black Mountain Home for Children, Youth and Families. I worked with foster kids in Missouri, and it's unreal how a little love, support and commitment will change the life of a child who's experienced unimaginable struggles. The home is charged with saving our children by supporting them for practically as long as the kids will allow. Some of them are even in college, living in dorm-style housing on site. Now that is something I've never heard of... and it is tremendous commitment! CommentsWalt G 06/25/2011 6:43pm

Shrimpfest sounds good! Mmmmm Eileen 06/25/2011 11:13pm
please, it was ok, the line was toooooo long and too hot for the small plate of shrimp that cost $8 bucks. And may I say only one line when two or more were obviously needed. The drink guy was rude to the customers. The music was good and the guy telling war stories was great. Kudos to the woman who stood out in the hot sun and was provided NO shade, for keeping watch over the water slide. This event could have been managed better, a whole lot better. The food was good but the line was long! Cindy 06/26/2011 4:50pm
It was a fabulous event on a very hot day! All the kids were having a grat time, some folks did other activities while the line went down. When you consider that well over 3000 people came out in a spam of 2 hours and the shrimp was lfresh, and not precooked, I say the folks did a very good job getting you HOT shrimp fries, and hush puppies. But, the main thing was it was to benefit the children. Your contribution will make a difference in the life of a child. I am sure the committee wanted to please you, not tee you off, so please be forgiving and come back next year where I am sure there will many more lines to accommodate the nice folks that support the cause. Sounds like it was fun. ... Susan 06/30/2011 3:19pm
It was a blast! A great turn out for a great cause. I can expect to wait in a line for shrimp cooked to order. Much better than the pre-cook, sitting around getting soggy shrimp. 07/12/2011 5:16pm
